The Truth

Dear Wicked Warden... I hope that this note finds me well
I hope you read this in the morning from inside my empty cell
But the guards won't take a bribe, and the bars wont budge an inch
And the chains around my thighs match the cuffs around my wrists
This can't be it
I was the best at what I did... but so were you, kid

I'm caught, but make no mistake
It takes two to dance, and I took the bait and so
Two paths diverged in my road
One held my freedom, one had my soul
And I got caught 'cause I tried to choose both

But my Dear Warden it's important that your strategies are shamed
Your tactics lack decorum unbecoming of your rank
When you lured me out to london you assured me I was safe
Then you blocked the only door with reinforcements on the way
Were you hoping I would beg? or did you just take the risk
Pitting every hope you had on the chance I'd let you live
Did you forget? I was the best at what I did
And so were you... kid

I'm caught, but made no mistake
It takes two to dance, and I took the blame and so
Two paths diverged in my road
One held my freedom, one had my soul
And I got caught 'cause I tried to choose both

I made a deal with the Devil
I meant what I said when I said that I wanted this
You made your bed when you lied in it
Don't act surprised when it breaks like your promises
Now guilt is my only tool
The leverage I'd use if I had no options left
You gave me no path to choose except for The Truth
And I'm ready to confess

I'm caught, but not by mistake
You may think it chance, but I was betrayed
And so I've got one last punch to throw
You must understand, I wont go alone

So Warden now your covers blown
Tell everyone how deep this goes
No change of heart could have atoned
You of the sins against your oath

So Warden, now they have caught us both
